New England Patriots’ Jack Jones faces more than 30 years in prison after gun-related arrest

New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones finds himself in some major hot water with the law. Jones, 25, was arrested Friday night at Boston’s Logan International Airport Friday night as he allegedly attempted to bring two loaded guns on to a flight.

A fourth-round pick out of Arizona State last year, Jones was held on $50,000 bond following the arrest.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the young defensive back faces several different charges. They include possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device. Jones faces two charges on each count.

If these sound like serious charges, that’s because they are. Jones will face arraignment in East Boston Municipal Court on Tuesday as the courts were closed Monday to observe Juneteenth. Given the charges, Jones is facing some serious time. According to local officials that could include north of 30 years in prison.

“If he were convicted and sentenced consecutively on each charge he’d face more than 30 years in prison,” A spokesperson for Suffolk District Attorney’s Office said, via the Boston Globe.

Officials take situations like these very seriously in the post 9/11 world. Allegedly bringing two loaded firearms with you inside an international airport will certainly lead to questions about someone’s mentality.

For Jack Jones, that’s magnified further given the fact that he has a track record for poor decision-making in the past. The 25-year-old corner was arrested for burglary at a Panda Express back in 2018. He was also kicked out of USC for poor academics and suspended by Arizona State for violations of team conduct.

This led to Jones falling to the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft despite being seen as one of the most-talented cornerbacks in the class.

Jack Jones stats (2022): 30 tackles, 6 passes defended, 2 INT, 64.3 QB rating allowed

As you can see, Jones performed well in limited action as a rookie for the New England Patriots a season ago. None of this matters given the charges that Jones faces. As of right now, he still remains a member of the Patriots. They did release a statement shortly after the arrest was reported.

“We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time,” Patriots statement on Jones’ arrest.
