Scoot Henderson, Amen Thompson injured in Summer League debuts

Rookie No. 3 pick Scoot Henderson of the Portland Trail Blazers had himself a great first quarter in his Summer League debut Friday night against the Houston Rockets in Las Vegas.

Perhaps the new face of the Blazers after Damian Lillard’s trade request, Henderson scored 13 points with three rebounds and three assists in the first quarter alone.

Unfortunately, the guard suffered a shoulder injury and did not return to action. According to Chris Haynes of Turner Sports, Henderson will undergo an MRI on his shoulder with the belief that it is not dislocated.

The good news is that Portland doesn’t believe the shoulder is dislocated. The bad news? There’s a good chance that Henderson’s run with the team during the Summer League in Vegas is over. We’re sure that the Blazers wanted to see what their shiny new toy could offer against pro-level competition ahead of training camp in September.

Scoot Henderson stats (Friday night): 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 5-of-13 shooting, 1-of-3 3-point

Friday night’s game was also billed as a matchup between Henderson and the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Rockets youngster Amen Thompson.

Unfortunately, Thompson joined his counterpart in leaving the game early due to injury. Thompson suffered a sprained ankle in the second half after scoring 16 points with four rebounds, five assists, three steals and four blocks.

“I know I’m gonna be good, but it’s really up to the staff,” Amen Thompson said about whether he’ll play Sunday following Friday night’s game.
